'This is the best day of my life' - How Sam Fender reacted to meeting Newcastle legend Alan Shearer

'This is the best day of my life!'

That was how Geordie music artist Sam Fender reacted when he met Newcastle United's record goalscorer Alan Shearer before a homecoming show in North Shields.

Fender was in the King Street Social Club preparing for a hometown show to celebrate his debut album, 'Hypersonic Missiles', reaching number one in the UK album charts.

Shearer was tasked with presenting Fender with his award for the number one album and the two chatted for a segment in tonight's MOTDx on BBC Two.

And despite his musical success, Fender's incredibly heartwarming reaction was just as every other Newcastle fan would react to meeting a Magpies legend.

After a few expletives, a joke about Michael Owen and his brilliant reaction to 'Big Al' signing his guitar, Fender told Shearer about how he was on benefits three years ago and now he was sat talking to his idol after hitting number one in the charts.

He also explained that despite his love of Newcastle, his talents always lied in music, even though the Fender family are all huge Newcastle fans.

You can watch Fender's brilliant reaction to meeting Shearer in the video at the top of the article. The full interview will be aired in tonight's MOTDx on BBC Two at 11:15pm.
