This is the 'beautiful' woman, 22, who died after being stabbed at Manchester city centre tower block

A young woman who died after being stabbed at an apartment building in Manchester city centre has been named as Elinor O'Brien.

Police were called to the Great Northern Tower on Watson Street on Tuesday, August 16, after paramedics found a 22-year-old woman injured and unresponsive inside a property.

She was taken to hospital with stab wound injuries but has sadly since passed away. The woman has now been identified as Ms O'Brien and her family are being supported by specially trained officers.

A 44-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of section 18 assault and has since been charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm. Kevin Mannion, 44, of Watson Street, appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court on Friday (August 19) and was remanded into custody.

Tributes have since poured in for the 22-year-old, who was due to celebrate her 23rd birthday next week. One woman known to Elinor said: "Elinor was a beautiful young girl with the rest of her life ahead of her. She would have been 23 next week on August 28.

"She was loved by anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her, she lit up the room with her infectious smile and laughter. Many hearts have been shattered and will never be the same. RIP our angel."
