'This is private for us' - Marcelo Bielsa clear on how Ian Poveda must kick on after first week

Adaptation is the buzzword when it comes to new Leeds United signings under Marcelo Bielsa and Ian Poveda’s may be going swimmingly, but it must translate to the pitch.

That is Bielsa’s view. Stuart Dallas can pay the diminutive winger all the compliments he likes, but the fans need to see the fruits of that relationship when it matters.

Dallas has never seen a player take to the group as quickly as Poveda, but, though Bielsa has seen promise, he knows it is behind closed doors, useless to the supporters.

As ever, the head coach only cares for and comments on what is most important, results on the pitch which hopefully see United promoted.

Asked about Poveda’s arrival in light of Dallas’s endorsement, Bielsa said: “You have social adaptations after you have adaptations according to the method of working.

“In this sense, living with him is very nice and also his way to face the day-to-day is very good.

“But the evaluation we have to do, which is most important, is how he’s going to play and the way he’s going to play.

“So for him to succeed in matches, it’s very good his adaptation with his team-mates and the training is not difficult for him. Training is useful for him.

“But this is private for us. It’s inside doors. What we have to comment on is how he plays and the way he is going to play.”
