This is Nottingham Forest's best XI of the season - and it might surprise you

Nottingham Forest fans have had their say on which players would make up the Reds’ best XI from this season - and it might not quite be what many would expect.

We asked Reds fans to vote on who has impressed most in each position over the course of the campaign, and there was some tough competition across the pitch - particularly in defence.

Forest have had a number of centre-backs on their books this term, with Alexander Milosevic and Molla Wague helping Martin O’Neill’s men sign off with a run of three successive clean-sheets.

'He's a better backup than we already have!' - Nottingham Forest fans give their take on Tyler Walker

The former has clearly made an impact since signing midway through the season, and is included in supporters’ best XI.

But there is a place too, for Michael Dawson, despite the 35-year-old having been restricted to just 13 appearances since his summer move as he has battled injury problems.

He has kept out the likes of Tobias Figueiredo, Yohan Benalouane and Wague from the dream team.

In goal, Costel Pantilimon got the nod from the majority of voters, over Luke Steele, and the consistency of Jack Robinson saw him picked for the left-back role.

West Ham United loanee Sam Byram has made a good impression in a short amount of time, with most fans plumping for him ahead of Tendayi Darikwa and Saidy Janko.

In midfield, Jack Colback wins his place in the most popular line-up, having run Joe Lolley close for the club’s Player of the Season honour.

There is a spot for Lolley too, though, with the winger having been a standout performer for the Reds, weighing in with double-figures for both assists and goals.

Ryan Yates only broke into the side at the start of this year and Forest are particularly well stocked for options in the centre of the pitch. But supporters favoured the teenager for one of the midfield holding roles, alongside Colback.

With his outstanding display against Middlesbrough fresh in the memory, Portuguese youngster Joao Carvalho also makes it into the best XI of the season, along with Matty Cash.

And up front, it is top scorer Lewis Grabban who earned the most votes, beating Daryl Murphy, Karim Ansarifard and Hillal Soudani.

Forest’s best XI of the season, as voted for by fans: Pantilimon, Byram, Milosevic, Dawson, Robinson, Cash, Carvalho, Colback, Yates, Lolley, Grabban.
