‘This is not what I paid for’: Woman tries to use $40 One/Size On ‘Til Dawn Setting Spray. It backfires

One customer got more than she bargained for when she attempted to finish off her makeup look with Patrick Starr’s One/Size On ‘Til Dawn Glitter Setting Spray.

“PATRICK WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO MEEEE?” Britney (@britneyleeannexm) writes in the on-screen caption of her viral TikTok. In the video, she sprays the product on her face before pausing to clear her eyes. She then goes in for a second coat, and this is where the problem starts.

The nozzle continues to spray a large stream of product nonstop.

“Guys, oh my God, wait. My $40, wait,” Britney says. She questions what she should do as she attempts to put the cap back on to no avail.

Things continue to take a turn for the worse after Britney slams the bottle against something and the nozzle cap pops off, leaving only the small tube that connects to it. The product continues spraying out of the tube as Britney continues to hit it against a surface.

She takes the bottle outside, where it continues to spray out of control. She hits it against a surface, and for a while, it looks like it has stopped as the stream of glitter spray is no longer visible on camera. However, the fizzing sound of the nozzle can still be heard. Britney eventually puts the nozzle cap back on and it’s clear the stream has no intention of stopping. She says the product has gotten all over her camera and hands.

“This was like $40,” she laments as she watches her money go up in smoke. “Patrick, this is not what I paid for,” she concludes.

‘This would break my heart’

In the comments section, viewers offered sympathy, solutions, and silliness.

“Sephora will refund you lol but you will need to show them the video,” one said, though it is unclear whether Britney purchased the product from Sephora.

A second offered an alternative. “The LOREAL infallible setting spray (red bottle) is the exact same hairspray consistency as this spray and its a cheaper dupe – all my friends made the switch and our makeup lasts the entire day does not smudge AT ALL,” they wrote. “Trust me ull appreciate me for this lol.” The L’Oréal product is indeed cheaper, retailing for $10.98 at Walmart, but it does not contain glitter.

“Buying setting spray from a Starfish was your first mistake,” another joked, referencing the fact that makeup artist and founder and CEO of One/Size, Patrick Starr, has the same name as the famous starfish from “SpongeBob SquarePants”.

Some commenters noted that there were no beauty brands in the comments section trying to get good PR by fixing Britney’s issue, including One/Size. However, one brand did step up to the plate.

“Oop — not the one size! … unacceptable! check your DMs,” Shipt wrote with a winky face.

In a repost where Britney used the trending “Nothing beats a Jet 2 holiday” audio, One/Size responded, “Hi Brit! We’re so sorry that happened. We just sent you a DM and would love to make it right. Please check your messages when you can, we’re here for you!”

Is this a common problem?

Britney is not the only customer who has had this issue with the nozzle. A search for the viral product on TikTok immediately yields several results of people having the same problem

Despite the issue, the original On ‘Til Dawn Setting Spray and its variants are beloved, receiving praise from Ariana Grande and Beyoncé’s makeup stylist and appearing on Lady Gaga’s vanity. The product is so successful that Starr says he sells a bottle “every seven seconds.”

The glitter variety retails for $36 at Sephora and Kohl’s. The original typically retails for $34 on the One/Size website but is currently on sale for $27.20.
