Here’s where things stand: In a dramatic escalation of tensions, Israel launched a preemptive strike on Iran, targeting its nuclear facilities in what they called “Operation Rising Lion.” Israel argued the move was necessary to prevent an imminent Iranian attack, but Iran, as expected, retaliated with missile fire. Given the long-standing enmity between the two nations, none of this is particularly surprising. What is surprising — or at least noteworthy — is how quickly the United States got involved.
On Saturday night, Trump announced via Truth Social that the U.S. military had successfully bombed three Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. He praised the operation as a victory for American strength, declaring, “NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!” The strikes were designed to cripple Iran’s nuclear capabilities, which Tehran insists are for peaceful purposes — a claim Israel and the U.S. have long rejected.
The response to Trump’s announcement has been predictably polarizing. Progressives like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed the move as unconstitutional, arguing that military action without Congressional approval violates the War Powers Act. Meanwhile, Republicans are split down the middle. Traditional hawks praised Trump’s decisiveness, while isolationists like Greene and Rep. Thomas Massie fumed at the idea of America being dragged into yet another foreign conflict.
And this is where Greene’s existential crisis comes into play. She’s consistently voted against military aid to Israel, even after the October 7th attacks by Hamas, and has positioned herself as one of the few Republicans willing to buck the party’s unwavering support for the Jewish state.
So, to see Trump — her Trump — bypass her and take military action in defense of Israel must feel like a personal betrayal. Say what you will about Greene, but on this, she’s absolutely right: The United States has no business entangling itself in yet another foreign war. What’s happening between Israel and Iran is tragic, yes. But is it America’s fight? No. From Iraq to Afghanistan to Libya, America’s interventions have often caused more harm than good, destabilizing entire regions and creating power vacuums that leave the world worse off than before.
