There's a new Lamborghini in town, and it's called Fenomeno. Based on the flagship Revuelto, it gets the most powerful V-12 ever offered by the brand, along with hybrid assistance and striking looks described as a new "design manifesto." Lamborghini calls it a "few-off," with just 29 units destined for production.
Unlike Lamborghini's normal production models, the Fenomeno doesn't inherit its name from a Spanish fighting bull. We first saw the name pop up earlier this year with patent filings from the brand, showing off an official logo in Lamborghini's font. No reason for the name was given in Lambo's press release, but it does translate to "Phenomenon" in English. Seems appropriate, given the looks.
Because the Fenomeno is mostly a Revuelto underneath, it gets that car's 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V-12, albeit with a redesigned valvetrain, to squeeze out 823 horsepower and 534 pound-feet of torque. That makes it the most powerful V-12 ever from the brand. It's supplemented by two e-motors on the front axle, each making 147 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque. Along with a third motor mounted atop the dual-clutch gearbox, total output is an astounding 1065 horsepower.
The Revuelto similarities don't end there. The Fenomeno uses the same carbon monocoque, as well as a "forged composite" front crash structure, which is formed from short carbon fibers soaked in resin. The body itself is made from carbon, too, naturally, with dramatic angles and an unmistakable Lamborghini-esque fascia. There are Y-shaped accents abound, harkening back to the all-electric Terzo Millennio concept introduced in 2017.
“With the Fenomeno, we are setting a new, authentic, and brave course for our future-oriented design language,” design director Mitja Borkert said in a statement. “We have created a hyper-elegant design piece that is as refined and sophisticated as it is both athletic and essential. It is an unexpectedly elegant spaceship, made entirely from carbon fiber while remaining true to our heritage."
There's a bunch of new aero going on here, including an S-duct through the front of the nose and newly designed doors that direct cold air into the intakes out back. Those intakes act like huge NACA ducts, a throwback to the ducts that appear on the sides of the original Countach. The aero, plus the extra power, is enough for a 0-60 time of just 2.4 seconds, and a top speed "over" 217 miles per hour.
It's not just straight-line speed where the Fenomeno excels. Braking is handled by a set of carbon-ceramic brakes that use tech borrowed from Lamborghini's LMDh program. They're paired to a manually adjustable suspension system and a "6D" sensor that takes in info on acceleration, pitch, roll, and yaw to precisely determine the vehicle's grip situation and deliver power and traction accordingly—the first such system available on a production Lamborghini.
The Fenomeno is the latest in a line of few-offs introduced by the Lamborghini Centro Stile design department over the past 20 years. The first was the Reventón, followed by cars like the Sesto Elemento, the Veneno, the Centenario, the Sián, and the revived Countach.
"With the Fenomeno, Lamborghini once again presents an incomparable super sports car in a limited edition," CEO Stephan Winkelmann said in a statement. "The combination of the most powerful V-12 in our history, breathtaking design, superior aerodynamics, and cutting-edge technologies such as extreme lightweight construction makes the Fenomeno the most extraordinary super sports car of our time,"
There's no word on pricing or availability for the Fenomeno, but it's safe to say it will likely cost several million dollars. It's also likely already sold out. So Today's debut at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering might be your only chance to see one.
