This is how you can have your say on the plans to revamp Carlton Square

A shopping centre which contains a Wilko, Farmfoods, Boots, a bookies and several takeaways is set to receive a £790,000 refurbishment.

The funding for the Carlton Square was approved by the Labour-run Gedling Borough Council back in February, and it is hoped the facelift could be completed in time for Christmas next year.

The designs show that as part of the improvements there will be upgrades to the entrance areas, new paving and lighting changes to the car park layout, as well as new street furniture.

The designs have not yet been finalised, but members of the public and traders are now being asked for their views on how the precinct could look.

There could also be improvements to the car parking layout as part of the alterations.

The council says the area currently has unsightly service areas, unattractive main entrance areas, poor parking layout.

It also says the public areas around the shopping centres are in need of improvements.

Detailed designs of exactly what the new scheme will look like have not yet been finalised.

An initial consultation was held earlier in the year, and the council has now used that feedback to draw up the new designs.

The initial plans new trees, new parking, improvements to the outside of the main buildings, and new access for good vehicles.

They also show new fencing around the perimeter, a new pedestrian crossing for Burton Road, and a drop off

A council spokesman said: “We are still working together to finalise the elements that will make up the scheme but have addressed the comments you made."

The council will now ask members of the public to have their say on the plans.

The designs are being shown at the shopping centre on Monday, August 19, between 2pm and 4pm.

They will also be at the Carlton Fun Day on Wednesday, August 21, between 1pm and 4pm.
