This is how much Nottingham Forest will have to pay Fawaz Al Hasawi after Court of Appeal ruling

Nottingham Forest have scored a partial victory in a Court of Appeal battle with former owner Fawaz Al Hasawi over the financial fallout from his sale of the football club.

Mr Al Hasawi triumphed at the High Court in London in May and the club were ordered to pay him £4.2 million.

Judge Stuart Isaacs QC said there were no sums to be set off against the amount, which Mr Al Hasawi paid in loans during negotiations over the club's sale to Greek shipping magnate Evangelos Marinakis in May 2017.

The judge said Mr Al Hasawi bought Nottingham Forest in 2012 and "invested heavily" in the club's training ground, academy and match day facilities at the stadium.

But, in a ruling on Tuesday, Lord Justice Patten allowed the club's appeal in respect of about £604,000.

The decision will reduce the bill to around £3.6 million.

Forest narrowly avoided relegation to League One on goal difference in Mr Al-Hasawi's last season as owner of the club.
