This is how much Leeds City Council's highest earners are paid

The salaries taken home by Leeds City Council's highest earners have been revealed.

33,000 people are employed by the local authority across West Yorkshire, but a only select few earned a salary of more than £100,000 in the 2017/18 tax year.

The data, published by the TaxPayers' Alliance, shows that 19 employees at Leeds City Council earned six-figure salaries. This includes the council's chief executive, Tom Riordan, who is the authority's highest-earning employee, with an annual salary of £201,171 - including a pension contribution of £21,072.

Five directors earned more than £150,000 a year, while a further 13 employees earned an annual salary of more than £100,000.

The earnings of Mr Riordan may seem high, but he takes home less than money than some of his Yorkshire counterparts.

Bradford Council chief executive Kersten England took home £228,489, while Sheffield City Council chief executive John Mothersole earned £221,489. The figures show that the chief executive of North Yorkshire Council, Richard Flinton, earned slightly less Mr Riordan, with his 2017/18 earnings listed at £198,938.

Of the 50 highest local authority earners across the country, none were employed by Leeds City Council.

Roger Parkin, the interim chief executive of Slough Borough Council, took home more than any other local authority employee in the UK, with total earnings of £595,077.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the TaxPayers' Alliance said: "Many senior managers at local authorities have performed well in tough financial times. There are many reports of residents seeing no difference in the services they receive despite the necessary savings being made.

"However, the Town Hall Rich List also showcases the executives who have overseen failing departments, or received bumper pay-offs after poor performance in the job."
