This is how hot it will be where you live on Tuesday

Wales is set to heat up this week with some parts of the country reaching up to 30°C on Tuesday.

Most of the country already saw temperatures rise on Monday afternoon with highs of 24°C seen in some places. But the Met Office predicts the mercury is set to take a considerable rise again as the UK prepares for a heatwave.

Thursday is meant to be hot for most parts of the country but, according to the Met Office, Tuesday is set to be particularly scorching for Wales.

Forecasters say cloud will clear through Tuesday morning and will be followed by a hot dry day with maximum temperatures reaching 30°C.

Some measures are already being put in place to cope with the weather. Newport council has announced bins will be collected early this week as a result of the forecast.

The council tweeted: "As temperatures are due to soar to 30 degrees we will be activating our hot weather working policy so tomorrow we will start bin collections an hour earlier at 6am, finishing an hour earlier. We will assess this daily. Apologies for any inconvenience."

The Met Office has also published details about the expected nationwide heatwave. It reads: "Tuesday will see more widespread sunshine across all parts of the UK with the best of the brightness in the east and some scattered cloud remaining along western coasts.

"It will be predominantly dry across the UK with temperatures climbing into the low 30s Celsius across east Wales and much of England as far north as York. Parts of southeast England may reach 34C.

"Thursday is expected to see the peak in temperatures with 37°C possible in the southeast of England. The current July record is 36.7°C set at Heathrow in 2015.

"The all-time UK temperature record is 38.5°C recorded in Faversham in August 2003."

Chief Meteorologist Paul Gundersen added: "The UK will experience another pulse of high temperatures this week with the possibility of records being broken for not only July but also all-time records.

"The weather setup is broadly similar to the pattern that brought high temperatures to much of continental Europe at the end of June.

"As well as high temperatures during the day overnight temperatures will also be notably warm and could also break records. Conditions will feel much more comfortable for all by the time we get to Friday."
