This is how community groups in Stockport can get a share of £10,000

Community groups in Stockport are once again being given the chance to apply for a share of up to £10,000 of funding.

The annual Vernon Building Society Community Awards now is open for applications from Stockport based not-for-profit groups

Over seven years the awards have donated more than £70,000 to worthy causes in the community.

Previous winners include Stockport County Community Foundation, Beechwood Cancer Care and Millie’s Trust.

This year the Vernon are again offering £10,000 to not-for-profit organisations who dedicate themselves to supporting the local Stockport community.

Applications can be made until August 17.

Once applications have been received, 14 organisations will be shortlisted as finalists, who will be awarded a minimum of £250 to a maximum of £1,500.

Beechwood Cancer Care is among previous award winners (STE)

Stockport County Community Foundation’s Adrian Rigby-Bates said: "We as a charity, were delighted to have been chosen as one of the 14 finalists taking place in the voting for the 2018 Community Awards which has not only helped to raise invaluable funds for our Mental Health Football and Multisport Project but also helped build awareness about the good work that we do."

Organisations can apply online via the Vernon Building Society website at thevernon.co.uk/apply or by filling out a paper application in one of their six local branches.

Organisations must be based in, or benefit, the postcode areas SK1 to SK8 or SK12.

Applications supporting individuals or individual sponsorships, political activities, promotion of religious causes, activities that benefit animals or commercial enterprises won’t be considered.
