This is how cold the Met Office say it will be on Bank Holiday weekend

Temperatures will plunge to as low as -2C in some parts of Wales over the bank holiday weekend.

The May Day bank holiday is often associated with the first barbecue of the year but only the hardiest will be braving the shorts this weekend.

According to the Met Office there is potential for some temperatures feeling like -3C due to the wind chill.

The reason for the cold temperatures is due to an arctic wind coming from the north which will bring the chilly air southwards.

Where will it be coldest?

A Met Office Meteorologist said the Valleys are going to see the lowest temperatures in Wales over the bank holiday weekend.

She said: "As cold air is denser we are most likely to see the coldest temperatures in the Valleys as it stays in the valley bottoms as opposed to hill tops.

"There is likely to be frost overnight in some palces.

"I think we will see air temperatures getting down to -1C on Saturday morning and maybe as low as -2C on Sunday morning."

Will it be too cold to spend time outdoors?

According to the Met Office there are still options this weekend if you want to spend time outdoors.

"There is high pressure so it should be sunny," said the Met Office meteriologist.

"If you can shelter from the wind it won't feel bad at all especially on Sunday."
