Honda wants to completely reinvent its electric lineup and it has been previewing its future EVs with its 0 Series of concepts. The latest in the series is the 0 α (alpha) prototype, which was unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, previewing a smaller and more affordable electric crossover.
The design is very similar to the 0 SUV concept, but comparing the two, you can see that the new α is smaller and less elongated-looking, with even less side glass. This includes the same unusual C- and D-pillar design, which combines them into one, giving the vehicle somewhat of a van look from the rear by having no side windows.
The front fascia is almost identical to that of the larger 0 SUV, but it has a different light signature. In the back, it has the same distinctive U-shaped light bar, but it has a larger windshield than the larger vehicle’s almost letterbox-like strip of glass on the tailgate. We don’t know how representative of the finished production model either of these is, and they’re both likely subject to change.
Honda says it adopted a 'thin' design philosophy with this model, meaning it has enough ground clearance to be called a crossover but without being excessively tall. We don’t know what it looks like inside, though, but we can speculate based on what the interior of the larger 0 SUV is like. Unlike its larger brother, the α has regular side mirrors, not cameras and screens inside.
It previews a production model that won’t differ too much in appearance and will go on sale in 2027. Honda says it’s “mainly” targeted at Japan and India, but there’s no reason why we couldn’t see it make its way into Europe and other markets. It probably won’t reach the U.S., though, where only the production version of the larger 0 SUV will be available, followed by a sedan previewed by a Dustbuster-like concept.
Both of these larger 0 Series EVs sold in the U.S. will be locally built at the Honda EV Hub in Ohio, which includes the Marysville Auto Plant and the Anna Engine Plant, with the latter being retooled to produce battery castings for these new EVs.
The first to arrive is the SUV, sometime in 2026, followed around six months later by the sedan. They will cost from around $50,000 and promise to deliver around 300 miles of range thanks to a newly developed EV platform.
Honda calls it e:architecture and says it prioritizes light weight, interior spaciousness and features a very thin battery in its floor. No word yet on whether it can handle 800 volts or if all models built on this platform will stay at 400 volts.
