United States President Donald Trump has never shied away from speaking ill of the Democrats. On several occasions, he has falsely accused them of doing things they have no involvement in, and in others, he has deflected blame from himself and his party and pinned it on them.
One of the many Democratic-leaning individuals who has recently become Trump’s primary focus is Zohran Mamdani, a frontrunner in the 2025 New York City mayoral race. After securing a win in the primary polls, Trump has taken repeated digs at Mamdani, often through the social media platform Truth Social. Immediately after he had won, Trump called Mamdani “ a 100% Communist Lunatic” in a post and said:
“He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him.”
Trump continued bad-mouthing Mamdani after this, with some of his most significant and shocking comments coming after Eric Adams decided to drop out of the mayoral race, citing pressure from powerful people. Trump threatened to cut funding for New York City if Mamdani wins. In a Truth Social Post after Adams dropped out, Trump wrote:
“Remember, he needs the money from me, as President, in order to fulfill all of his FAKE Communist promises. He won’t be getting any of it, so what’s the point of voting for him?”
Recently, Trump made similar comments about Mamdani, but in a more direct manner. During a recent press conference, Trump reiterated his position on him and said that he would not be making any expenditures for a city run by a “communist” in case he wins the Mayoral elections. He also said that he would not let someone like him “squander” taxpayer money (something that his party have been accused of, besides other things).
Trump’s remarks regarding Mamdani did not go unnoticed. Many people pointed out that his tactics to sway voters were unfair. One individual highlighted:
“This is election interference. Blue states should stop sending tax dollars to the federal government.”
Others expressed similar sentiments, criticising Trump for his obnoxious comments.
