A customer is asking Hillshire Farm to explain itself after she found a foreign object in her Beef Polska Kielbasa.
In a viral video, Nat of dog mom and fur baby duo Nat & Tater (@natandtaterthecorgi23) says, “Hillshire Farm, you need to explain yourself. What is inside this kielbasa?”
She shows the sausage on a cutting board with some small slices cut off and two larger pieces remaining. In one of the small slices and larger pieces, there is something that appears almost like mold.
Nat takes a knife to cut up the larger piece that has visible debris. “You can clearly see numbers and letters,” she says as she pulls out the debris, which is then revealed to be a sticky label rather than mold.
In the caption, Nat adds, “I was just trying to make a seafood boil.” What a tragedy that her meal was ruined during seafood boil season.
What’s inside this Hillshire Farm sausage?
In the comments section, viewers found the discovery scary and disgusting.
User Hayley wrote, “No no no no no nooo nooo no nooo I just bought some the other day and now I’m scared to open it.”
User Mona D said, “Same thing happened to me. Mine had a hard substance in it and I’ve never touched them again.”
One commenter accused Hillshire of knowing the food was contaminated and selling it anyway. “They knew a label fell in, but they also know it’s cheaper to send a free coupon or refund to one or two people rather than dump a whole batch. It’s been cooked, so you won’t die, but that don’t make it right,” they wrote.
Others suggested what the label could’ve come from.
User Riki Garcia said, “Its part of a spice bag from the factory.”
Another viewer said, “Ex worked for.them that looks like casing they use to form the sausage.”
Other viewers cracked jokes at the situation.
One wrote, “Don’t worry. that was USDA inspected (label).”
A second said, “Its a note saying they’ve been trying to reach you about your cars extended warranty.”
A third wrote, “That’s a ticket [to] Willy wonka’s kielbasa factory! Wake up grandpa Joe!”
Another commenter criticized Nat’s choice of sausage for her seafood boil. “Ummm dont you normally use andouille sausage for that?” they questioned.

What should I do if I find a foreign object in my food?
According to attorneys Allen Allen Allen & Allen, you should follow these steps:
- Immediately stop eating. If you have some of the food in your mouth, spit it out and rinse your mouth.
- Carefully remove the object from the food if it is small and easy enough to. If it is large or too difficult to remove, leave the object in the food.
- Take pictures of the food and foreign object.
- Save the foreign object and food. Place the food in one sealed container and the foreign object in another. You may consider freezing the food if you plan to store it for a long time.
- Notify the food establishment.
- File a complaint with authorities like the local health department or food safety agency if you become injured or sick from eating the contaminated food.
- Consider legal action if you are injured or sick.
