‘This is absolute insanity’: Texas inspector walks into newly constructed home. Then he sees where the garage door is

Finding a new build that doesn’t have some sort of major structural flaw is starting to become a homebuyer’s version of Mission Impossible. Home inspectors know this all too well–and have continuously been posting their disappointment at these finds on TikTok. Their warnings have more than likely made folks think twice about buying a new build in the 2020s.

Now, another home inspector who goes by @inspector.k on TikTok sounded the alarm after they came across a garage that was “absolute insanity.”

“This is insane,” Inspector K begins in his clip. “Look at this, guys.”

He films from the inside of a garage of a new build property in Texas. He then pans to the garage door that leads inside the house. What he reveals stops him in his tracks.

“The garage door is like, 8  feet off the ground,” the inspector says, pointing at the door. The inspector points out how there are also electrical plugs along that wall. He demonstrates how irrationally far from reach they are. He stretches his hand to touch it, claiming he’s over 6 feet tall.

Inspector K shares how it’s a “normal-sized” garage. However, the fact that the door is far off the ground will require them to install a staircase. No matter which way the staircase faces, it’ll rob garage space. This will make it awkward for a car to fit, he explains.

The “insanity” doesn’t stop there–the TikToker hops into his vehicle and reveals how every single house on that street has the same problem.

Viewers were flabbergasted

With over 3.3 million views, Inspector K’s video stirred quite the debate on TikTok. Many of the top-liked comments were people making fun of the house using video game terminology.

“If Minecraft has taught me anything it’s that if you don’t have room for a staircase, just put a ladder there,” one wrote. A second said, “I think this glitched will be patched in next update.”

One simply stated that the architect “needs to be sued.”

A handful of users speculated that the house was in a flood-prone area, which could explain the garage design. But the TikToker quickly denied that possibility.

“No flood risk close to here. Just no dirt work being done which is insane,” he replied to such a comment.

Who built this home?

Despite Inspector K not revealing who the builder was, several users swore they were able to tell just by looking at the house.

“I know a DR Horton when I see one,” one said. Another stated, “This screams DR Horton Homes.” The TikToker replied, “Welll….. we didnt say it [laughing emoji].”

He also liked a comment that read, “Tell me you’re a DR Horton home without telling me you’re a DR Horton home!”

Another user who identified themselves as owning a “profitable company” with masonry repair wrote, “I know a DR Horton build when I see one.”

What’s wrong with DR Horton Homes?

D.R. Horton homes advertise themselves as “America’s Largest Home Builders.” The company is known as the “top home builder” in America, and its annual revenue for 2023 was $34.46 billion.

However, a quick Google search results in several YouTube videos of people blasting the company. In one such video, a real estate expert called them “homes from hell” after homebuyers were filled with regret.

The YouTuber even lists a website called www.drhortonsucks.com (which does indeed exist and is filled with regretful home buyers).

The company has also been involved in a string of lawsuits, with most of them centered around construction flaws and deceptive sales practices. Just last week, a district judge ruled that the class action lawsuit against the homebuilder will “move forward in a district court and not in arbitration.” The class action was filed after accusations of mold buildup in DR Horton Homes.
