'This is a white problem' - Banksy unveils powerful artwork inspired by George Floyd death

Banksy has unveiled a powerful new artwork inspired by the death of George Floyd, describing such acts of racial injustice as a 'white problem'.

The Bristol street artist posted a picture of the piece on his Instagram earlier today (Saturday, June 6) and said the system was making the lives of people of colour a 'misery'.

The artwork shows a tribute to an anonymous black figure alongside a candle that has set the American flag on fire.

It comes as protesters held a two-minute silence and marched through Bristol on Thursday as people across the world take action in protest at George Floyd's death in Minneapolis.

Mr Floyd died on May 25 after a police officer held him down by pressing his knee into his neck.

Around 4,000 people also plan to take part in a larger demonstration on Sunday (June 7), which will start on College Green at 1pm before a march to Portland Square in St Pauls.

Describing why he decided to post the new piece, the street artist wrote: "At first I thought I should just shut up and listen to black people about this issue.

"But why would I do that? It’s not their problem. It’s mine.

"People of colour are being failed by the system. The white system. Like a broken pipe flooding the apartment of the people living downstairs.

Five things you can actually do after the death of George Floyd

"This faulty system is making their life a misery, but its not their job to fix it.

"They can't - no-one will let them in the apartment upstairs.

"This is a white problem. And if white people don't fix it, someone will have to come upstairs and kick the door in."
