‘This is a bit much, no?’: Bette Midler has already figured out why Donald Trump is dragging the U.S. into another war

Donald Trump may be about to kick off World War 3. His insane attack on Iran over the weekend was like throwing gasoline onto an open fire. An emboldened Israel now has a license to spread death further across the Middle East, Iran now has a justification for attacking American military bases in the region, and other global superpowers may well be dragged in.

Oh well, at least we have Bette Midler‘s hot take on events. Taking to BlueSky, she said she believes Trump beginning a war with Iran is a great way for him to distract people from domestic problems, saying: “I guess he REALLY hated that military parade! Or maybe it was the NO KINGS protests! Anything to distract, but this is a bit much, no?”

In a way, I wish this were the case. Trump needing a distraction to hide his shame at the consequences of his policies, would at least imply that he has the capacity to feel shame. But, unfortunately, he either wholeheartedly believes that everything is rosy, or just doesn’t care what regular folks think at all.

No need for a distraction

The real reason Trump attacked Iran isn’t because of a need to cause a distraction, but simply because Netanyahu manipulated him into a position that gives Trump few options. After all, Trump has been a full-throated supporter of Israel throughout his two presidencies, standing side-by-side with Netanyahu on all issues.

Netanyahu knew all too well that if Israel attacked Iran, Iran would respond in kind. And, if Tel Aviv is taking missile fire, it’d take a president of superhuman political resilience and principle not to be dragged into the conflict sooner or later. Unfortunately for all of us, Donald Trump is not a president of superhuman political resilience and principle but rather an easily manipulable idiot. Which leads up to where we currently are.

Here’s hoping we get more insights from Hollywood over the coming weeks. Yes, the world may be inching ever closer to nuclear armageddon, but at least we can take solace in the fact that we have access to the political takes of wealthy performers, delivered directly from their opulent mansions. Silver linings and all that, right?
