When it comes to spoiling their pets, Bengaluru has won the race, as per Swinggy Instamart’s latest report. Nearly two-thirds of pet-care spending in India’s Silicon Valley goes towards treats, toys and premium products, making it the country’s most indulgent pet market.
Nearly 66% of all pet-care spending in the city goes toward treats, toys, and premium products, making it India's undisputed pet-pampering capital, with Gurgaon, Noida, and Hyderabad close on its heels, said the report.
In addition to this, the report revealed that Bengaluru is India's most dog-loving city, followed by Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi.
While metro cities continue to lead in overall pet care consumption, the fastest growth is coming from beyond the metros. Tier-II and smaller cities recorded a staggering 96% YoY jump in pet care orders, with Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Meerut, Madurai and Kottayam leading the charge.
The data also revealed the extent of spending among India’s most devoted pet parents – one customer in Delhi spent ₹60,957 on pet care products in a single year.
Cat lovers not far behind
As per the report, India is increasingly becoming a nation of cat lovers. Cat food now makes up almost 60% of all pet food demand on the platform, making it the king of the hill in the pet care aisle. “Cat food” was even the most searched-for pet-related term on Swiggy Instamart, highlighting the country’s growing love affair with feline friends.
Mumbai was named India’s cat capital, followed by Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata. Kolkata stood out as the nation’s “cat-crazy city”, with over 80% of the combined cat/dog food orders being for cats.
