The Panthers are 0-2 and the No. 1 reason why is their failure to execute offensively. In last night’s home loss to the Buccaneers, the defense did everything that could be expected, including putting points directly on the board, courtesy of a Luke Kuechly safety.
The offense just could not convert on its opportunities, though. This stat from Jenna Laine at ESPN really shows how much. Apparently, Carolina ran 30 plays inside Tampa territory in last night’s game. 19 of them went for either no gain or a loss.
Horrible.
To some extent, you have to tip your hat to Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, who has whipped a bad unit into shape very quickly since his arrival.
That said, something is clearly wrong either physically or mentally with Cam Newton’s game, and Norv Turner’s scheme isn’t helping.
