Mac Jones managed to avoid a Week 3 fine, but the same can’t be said for Jabrill Peppers, who received a hefty fine for an unnecessary roughness, helmet-to-helmet hit in the New England Patriots’ game against the New York Jets.
The Patriots veteran safety was fined $43,709 for the play. Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster was fined $16,391 for an unnecessary roughness play as well.
Buy Patriots TicketsPeppers’ hit came in the second quarter of a sluggish defensive battle with the Jets. Breece Hall took a hand-off up the gut and was initially met with contact by Patriots safety Kyle Dugger.
After that contact, however, Peppers could clearly be seen flying in on clean-up duty.

It’s a tough play where Peppers lowers his helmet before even noticing Hall is doing the same, and their helmets collided as a result. Fortunately, neither player was seriously injured in the play.
The only thing that came out on the losing end was Peppers’ wallet.
