This Gold Stock Soars While A China Name Retreats From A Buy Zone

What do China-based hotel name Atour Lifestyle Holdings and South African gold stock Gold Fields have in common? They both made the Investor's Business Daily Global Leaders Screen of top-rated names based outside the U.S.

Gold Fields stock jumped another 7.3% Tuesday and bypassed a new buy point. And Atour Lifestyle dipped below a buy zone amid its newest pullback.

Gold Stock Jumps To A Buy Zone

Gold Fields rallied for a second day Tuesday, after the gold and metals miner gave first half 2025 preliminary numbers that delighted investors Monday.

Shares broke out of an early-stage consolidation pattern with an official 26.36 buy point. But the gold stock had a breakaway gap above the buy point of the base.

Therefore, a more appropriate entry point would be 27.08, the high of the first five-minute price bar. Shares are extended from the 5% buy zone up to 28.43.

The gold stock hit an all-time high Tuesday. Shares have benefited from the rise in gold prices and have more than doubled so far this year.

The excitement came after the gold miner gave an advanced notice of its first half 2025 earnings reflecting triple-digit growth. It also expects its gold volumes sold to increase further in the second half of 2025. Gold Fields reports its final 2025 first half results on Aug. 22.

It operates 10 gold mines and projects in Australia, Canada, Chile, Ghana, Peru and South Africa.

It is tied for the top spot in the Mining-Gold/Silver/Gems group, which holds the 11th spot out of the 197 industry groups that Investor's Business Daily tracks.

Lastly, Gold Fields holds a best-possible 99 IBD Composite Rating and a 98 Earnings Per Share Rating.

Atour Lifestyle Is Back In The Zone

Shares broke out of early-stage flat base with a 34.23 buy point in early July, but struggled to progress. After trading tightly for three weeks, shares had a losing streak of five straight sessions and tested their 50-day moving average Friday.

Atour Lifestyle retreated below a buy zone in Tuesday's drop after Monday's rebound, according to MarketSurge pattern recognition.

Its first-quarter profit growth slowed to 31% from 47% and 45% in the prior two quarters. Analysts predict 36% growth in the second quarter.

Its rate of sales growth slid to 29% in the first quarter from 53% and 35%. Forecasts show a 30% increase for the second quarter. Then it's expected to around 26% over the following two quarters. Full-year profit projections call for both 2025 and 2026 to rise 25%.

The China hotel operator historically reports its second-quarter earnings around late August.

As of Dec. 31, 2024, its hotel network had 1,619 hotels, spanning 209 cities in China with 183,184 hotel rooms. And its A-Card loyalty program had over 89 million registered individual members at year-end 2024.

The China stock holds a 95 Composite Rating and a 99 EPS Rating.

Miner Makes The List

Lastly, another mining stock, Peru's Minas Buenaventura, made the IBD Global Leaders screen.

Shares advanced 2.1% Tuesday. The stock is back in the buy zone up to 18.30 of a long, cup-with-handle base with a 17.43 entry point.

The mining company topped second-quarter earnings and sales estimates on July 24. Its operating income climbed 32% while revenue grew 33%. Full-year 2025 estimates show profit rising 2% then 11% in 2026.

Its average daily trading volume is around $16.5 million, whereas Investor's Business Daily normally seeks stocks with a minimum dollar volume of $25 million per day.

The company operates mines and projects in Peru for gold, silver, copper, zinc and lead.
