This fridge has been at the side of a main Swansea road for as long as two years

A tall bulky fridge has been dumped outside a house on a busy street in Swansea for so long, many people probably don't even notice it any more.

Propped up against the wall on a square of concrete in Mansel Street in the city centre, the fridge is practically part of the furniture.

Drivers and pedestrians possibly don't give it a second glance, so used are they to the sight of the rusting appliance.

But one resident has had enough, saying it gives a bad image of Swansea to the hundreds of people who drive and walk along the street every day.

The woman, who doesn't want to be named, said the fridge had been there for up to two years - at the very least, a year and a half.

"It is an eyesore," she said.

She suggested someone should have moved the object by now

Although it looks pretty awful, it is on private land and the council has no power to move it (Robert Melen)

The fridge is set back off the street and is on private land, which means Swansea Council has no power or duty whatsoever to clear it from Mansel Street.

A spokesman for Swansea Council said: “Unfortunately, the fridge appears to be on private land and is the responsibility of the landowner.

"The council doesn’t have any authority to remove it, however we will try to contact the landowner to inform them of what’s happened and what they need to do.”

It seems the fridge is there to stay at least for the timebeing.

Cheryl Elexa, who owns Elexa Elegance Beauty immediately opposite the abandoned fridge, said it had been there for as long as she could remember.

"It's been there a long time," Miss Elexa said.

"It looks as though it's just been left there after someone moved out."

Wales Online is trying to trace the owners of the fridge and the building it is outside for comment.
