This Free Steam Game Lets 'WoW' Players Practice Midnight Raid Bosses Before Release

A new free-to-play Steam title is giving "World of Warcraft" players a significant edge ahead of the highly anticipated Midnight expansion.

Designed to ease the pressure of raid nights, "Vellum: Raid Night Study Hall" allows players to practice complex boss mechanics before stepping into actual endgame encounters.

Practice Upcoming Midnight Raids

Midnight Season 1 is set to introduce three challenging raids: Voidspire, Dreamrift, and the March of Quel'Danas. "Vellum: Raid Night Study Hall" recreates these encounters through eight practice scenarios inspired by the upcoming content. This allows players to familiarize themselves with mechanics, improve reaction times, and build confidence in a low-pressure setting before facing real raid groups.

Interactive Learning and In-Game Guidance

Developed by Alvios Games, the game repurposes assets from its roguelike title Vellum to create a focused training environment. During encounters, players receive real-time on-screen tips that guide them through mechanics step by step.

An in-game codex, similar to the dungeon journal in "World of Warcraft," offers deeper explanations, helping players fully understand each boss fight.

Simplified Combat for Focused Training

Unlike traditional MMORPG gameplay with complex class roles, the game uses a simplified system featuring a resource builder, spender, dash, and ultimate ability. Its streamlined design removes unnecessary complexity and allows players to focus entirely on learning raid patterns, timing, and positioning.

According to GameSpot, the concept builds on earlier community-created resources like TacticalAirHorse's Pineapple Raid Guides, which helped players prepare for previous expansions.
