This former police station in Stockport is set to go under the hammer

A former police station is set for a new lease of life when it goes up for auction later this month.

The old Bredbury police station in Stockport has been put up for sale, and will go to auction with a guide price of £190,000.

The two storey red-brick building, on George Street, is more than 2,000 square feet in size, and sits on a 633 square metre plot of land.

It is not yet clear what the building could be turned into, as any plans for the site would be subject to planning permission.

But auction house Pugh says it offers 'a variety of future potential uses' and could make 'excellent residential accommodation'.

Pugh managing director Paul Thompson said: “There’s been a great deal of interest in the site.

"Not only is it in a great location in a thriving residential neighbourhood in Bredbury, but it is also a handsome building with a significant heritage and historic importance to the town.

“It would be great to see the old police station become an asset to the community again. Subject to gaining the necessary planning consent, there is a great deal of scope for a new use for the building and it would make excellent residential accommodation.”

Since the onset of lockdown in March, Pugh has sold more than 190 lots online.

The police station will be auctioned through the firm's Manchester office on October 21.
