This forgotten squid Pokémon taking over social media could be the next Mega Evo coming to Legends Z-A

This is a story all about how, Malamar got flipped turned upside down.

With Pokémon Legends Z-A fast approaching, and the reveals of Mega Victreebel and Mega Hawlucha behind us, it seems The Pokémon Company could be prepping for another exciting reveal after posting a bunch of weird Malamar-themed videos all across social media in quick succession.

Several of the Pokémon social media accounts shared videos featuring Malamar today, with people in the videos appearing obsessed with the Pokémon, almost as if they're mesmerized or hypnotized by it.

This fits very neatly in with the Pokémon's lore, with one Pokédex entry stating how "gazing at its luminescent spots will quickly induce a hypnotic state, putting the observer under Malamar's control."

While there's no official confirmation of a Mega Malamar reveal just yet, this falls right in line with previous announcements, as fans have gotten one Mega Pokémon revealed weekly for the last fortnight.

Fans in the comments are eager to see the reveal, with comments saying, "Wait are we getting Mega Malamar" and "okay mega malamar timeeeee" among other excited posts. When 8am CT came (which would have been a week exactly since Mega Hawlucha was revealed), there was no Mega Malamar in sight. But everything appears to point at the Dark type being the next reveal.

Malamar was originally introduced in Pokémon X & Y, which is where players first explored Lumiose City. Considering Pokémon Legends Z-A is set entirely within Lumiose City, this is a fitting choice for one of the many new Mega Pokémon we expect in the upcoming title.

The squid-based Pokémon also has one of the most unique evolution methods in the game, as players who catch its predecessor, Inkay, have to literally tip the console upside down to make it evolve. Hopefully, the Mega Evolution won't require quite the same technique, as we certainly don't want to drop our Nintendo Switch 2 consoles any time soon.
