Capturing the bizarre moment on camera, Frankie Nickole captioned the clip: "I'm not sure what this weird looking fish is, but this is why I don't swim in canals or rivers."
The viral video has been liked over 7m times on the social network site, with the fish spotted at a canal in Cape Coral, Florida.
The striped fish can be seen swimming in the murky water and showing off its pearly whites as it reaches the surface.
Shocked viewers have been replying to Frankie's initial video in droves and appear to have been left terrified.
