“English couple that got hold of tickets for the Italian end and wanted to blend in”, one joked
(Picture: Twitter )There was one couple in the crowd at the Euro 2020 final who turned heads left, right and centre – and no, it wasn’t a celebrity power couple.
Among the 60,000 fans at Wembley Stadium, we witnessed a meme in the making after a couple stood out from the crowd on live TV. The duo were spotted in hilarious head-to-toe fancy dress, with one dressed up as a pepperoni pizza and the other dressed as Mario from the famous game franchise.
What really ticked people was the woman’s rather unimpressed facial expression as the man spoke to her.
Viewers were in hysterics after spotting the random duo – and their responses did not disappoint.
Can I be Luigi babe? No, pizza. You have to be the pizza pic.twitter.com/UsCYMMFGBN

One person was envious of the power couple and very much wanted what they had.

While another likened the ‘pizza and Mario couple’ to an iconic British meme that shows a man in a bar shooting his shot with a much-less enthusiastic woman.

And wondered exactly what they were talking about...
I’m more interested in what Mario is saying to the Pizza. #ENG #Euro2020Final pic.twitter.com/d8QCrMPMiH

One said they were witnessing ‘a meme being born’ on live TV.
Do you ever watch a meme being born in real time. pic.twitter.com/LHVu6mOG9Z

While others worried that it had given Italy an unfair advantage
Italy’s had all the momentum since they showed Pizza Girl and Super Mario Boyfriend

It’s fair to say that we don’t think we’ve seen the last of this iconic pair.
