This exclusive Edinburgh-brewed beer is set to be the most refreshing drink in the capital this summer

Calling all Edinburgh craft beer lovers! Our city is packed full of brilliant breweries serving up their twists on the classics as well as the weird and wonderful so when something exclusive comes out it's always exciting.

This week sees the launch of a new collaborative beer in the shape of 'semi-sour' - The Mel'n Mint, created by Leith brewery Pilot is packed full of watermelon, hibiscus and - you guessed it - mint.

Vivid, with a tart edge followed by a big, fruity punch, the brew has been created specifically for this month's Edinburgh Craft Beer Festival - coming to the Biscuit Factory May 24th and 25th.

Packed full of juicy watermelon, fragrant mint, and luscious hibiscus (giving it a vibrant pink glow), the beer was designed to be a light-yet-flavoursome sessionable summer drop.

You can grab yourself one in a 330ml from your local bottleshop and of course, at the festival itself.

Edinburgh Craft Beer Festival returns to The Biscuit Factory with a foodie focus

Matt Johnson, the director of Pilot said :

“We’ve probably jinxed it now but the last two years have brought some pretty warm weather to the festival and we wanted to brew a beer to pair perfectly with a warm summer’s day. We wanted the beer to be easy going and session-able, one that festival-goers can enjoy without getting their heads blown off by a high abv.

After discussion with the team at We Are Beer, we decided on a Watermelon, Mint and Hibiscus Semi-Sour. We’ve played around with herbs in our beers a few times now and have got some great results. We’ve not used fresh mint before, but have long talked about it so this was the perfect opportunity to give it a go. We reckon the fresh, cool, hit of watermelon and the citric zing of hibiscus would pair up perfectly."
