This entire Welsh village is for sale for the price of a two-bed London flat

The entire Welsh village of Aberllefenni is on the market - and you can buy it for the same price as a two-bed London flat.

The historic village near Machynlleth, North Wales, comprises of 16 homes and cottages as well as dozens of acres of agricultural land.

It has been on the market for more than four years - but estate agents are adamant that 2021 is the year it will finally be snapped up.

Since going on the market at £1.5 million in June 2016, there has been plenty of interest in the picturesque rural village, but no sale so far.

The price tag has even been dropped by £350,000, making it the same price you would expect to fork out for a swanky two-bed apartment in Knightsbridge, our sister title WalesOnline reports.

All currently tenanted, the properties previously housed workers from the nearby slate quarry and were owned by the family of John Lloyd, managing director of Caernarfon firm Inigo Jones & Co Ltd, which bought the site back in the 1960s.

The company then sold the quarry in April 2016 and put the homes up for sale a few months later.

The most recent attempt at a sale fell through in November, estate agent Dafydd Hardy said, claiming that the "complex nature of the package" has been responsible for the majority of hold-ups.

"There's only one way to progress with something of this nature and that's slowly," he said.

And despite the coronavirus pandemic slowing the market down even further and restricting viewings, Mr Hardy said a number of people have expressed interest in the last year.

"Actually, those [Covid-19] restrictions can be a good thing, as they tend to make people ask for as much information as they can about a property before they commit to looking at it," he explained.

"It's a good way for us to gauge just how serious any prospective buyers might be."

In fact, Mr Hardy said he thinks the village's run of bad luck is about to be broken.

"It's early days, but let's just say I'm quietly confident 2021 will be the year Aberllefenni finally sells.

"But I really can't divulge anymore than that at the moment."
