This drink driver claims he shouldn't be banned as he had a 'special reason'

A drink driver is fighting a possible road ban.

A breath test revealed David Bell  was approaching two times the legal limit when he was arrested in Walker.

Police stopped his Honda Civic in Greenford Road on August 6 when he blew the illegal reading.

(Newcastle Chronicle)

Appearing at North Tyneside Magistrates' Court , he pleaded guilty to one count to driving a motor vehicle when the alcohol level was above limit.

But his solicitor, Liz Dunbar, said he is opposing a ban claiming the 36-year-old was driving to a "medical emergency".

Crime sentence guidelines

Magistrates agreed to stage a "special reasons" hearing on October 15 at the same court.

Bell, of Staithes Avenue in Longbenton, was granted unconditional bail until then.
