This dreadful Yorkshire train service is the UK's most cancelled

A morning commuter train from Harrogate to Leeds was the most cancelled rail service in Britain.

The 7.13am Northern service failed to run 28 times since the failing operator introduced new timetables on December 15, The Sunday Times reports.

That means the service was cancelled on more than half the 55 mornings it was scheduled to run.

The second and third-worst in Yorkshire were the 7.37am Knaresborough to Leeds (cancelled 18 out of 55 times) and the 2.09pm Leeds to Nottingham (cancelled 16 out of 57 times), both run by Northern.

Northern, which was run by Arriva until it was renationalised this month due to abysmal performance, cancelled 5,700 services between December 15 and February 22.

This was the greatest number of cancellations of any operator during that period.

Analysis by ontimetrains.co.uk revealed that more than half of the trains scheduled for 49 services across Britain were cancelled.

Disruption to the services was blamed on flooding, staff shortages, track faults and defective trains.
