This dog was rescued by firefighters after getting her leg trapped in a radiator

A dog had to be rescued by firefighters after getting her leg trapped in a radiator.

Greyhound Connie was found whimpering in her bed at home by her owner Marie Garratt during the early hours of Sunday morning (November 1).

At first, she wasn't sure why her pet was crying.

But after a closer look she saw that Connie had got her leg trapped between the radiator and the thermostatic valve.

Marie was unable to free her so she called the RSPCA for help.

An animal welfare officer was sent to the home on Chatsworth Road in Stockport , but he realised he would need assistance so called the fire service.

Crews from Manchester Fire and Rescue Service used a large spanner to unscrew the valve while the terrified dog was comforted.

Steve Wickham from the RSPCA said: “Her leg was well and truly stuck and she was whimpering and frightened.

“I suspect she was asleep and as she turned over in the night somehow her leg went behind the valve and she was stuck.

“I needed extra assistance and knew the fire service would have the right equipment for the job.

"We work very closely with them on many rescues and are always grateful for their help.

“It didn’t take long for Connie to be freed and she was pleased to be able to get a fuss from her owner after the ordeal.”

After the incident, Connie's owner Marie said: “We are so grateful for the help that the RSPCA and fire brigade gave us in freeing Connie from the radiator.

"She’s back to her usual bouncy self now.”
