This Day In Music - 25 September

25 September 1980 - John Bonham, drummer with Led Zeppelin, died aged 32 after a heavy drinking session. 'Bonzo' was found dead at guitarist's Jimmy Page's house of what was described as asphyxiation, after inhaling his own vomit after excessive vodka consumption.

The drummer reportedly started the day with four quadruple vodkas and a ham sandwich for breakfast, then drank throughout the day's recording session. Bonham's gravestone is in the grounds of St Michael's church, near his Old Hyde Farm in Worcestershire. It's not been widely publicised, but the remaining members of Led Zeppelin are reuniting for the Ahmet Ertegun tribute show at The O2 in London on 26 November 2007.
