Facebook has confirmed that it will be changing the names of Instagram and WhatsApp – and users have been left puzzled.
The social media giant, which owns the hugely popular platforms, will be adding Facebook into their names, with some people questioning whether this is an "August Fools".
The move was first reported by The Information but has now been confirmed by Facebook itself.
It means that Instagram will be called 'Instagram from Facebook' and WhatsApp will be 'WhatsApp from Facebook'. This will appear on the app listings on the App Store and Google Play Store, as well as on the apps themselves.
As reported in The Mirror, a Facebook spokesperson said: "We want to be clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook."
Facebook bought Instagram in 2012 before purchasing WhatsApp two years later. It is unclear when the changes are going to be rolled out.
A number of people were left baffled by the change, with one user saying: "This better be an August Fools."
