Murs, a Los Angeles-based emcee, set the world record for the longest recorded rap session on Wednesday night after spitting a mix of original and classic hip-hop lyrics for 26-hours straight.
Billed as #BarsForDays, and sponsored by Boost Mobile, the marathon ended at 11am PST on Thursday. Murs recently said he was originally inspired by the cellphone carrier’s music streaming service but eventually took on a deeper meaning for his place in the culture.
"Lil' Yachty made his statement about not having to know older songs,” he told Rolling Stone, referring to the teenage boat fanatic who claims that he can’t name five songs from Tupac or Biggie Smalls. “And then setting this record became more about me paying tribute to the music I grew up on. And using this platform to maybe even expose someone younger or unaware to the classics.”
Some of the classic tracks making the cut were Ice Cube's "Check Yo Self," Dr Dre's "Xxplosive," and Xzibit's "Paparazzi."
Since there was no previous Guinness World Record for his feat, officials said he must rap for 24 hours straight with the exception of a five-minute for each hour of the session.
