Thiruvananthapuram: Tourist found dead at Varkala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 59-year-old tourist, who was staying at a homestay at Varkala for the past two months, died on Tuesday evening during swimming lessons at a resort here. Vidya Raghavan, hailing from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh is the deceased.

The police said the death happened around 6 pm at a resort at Varkala, where she was taking swimming lessons for the past one week. According to the staff of the resort, she was found lying in the pool of the resort following which she was rushed to a hospital, where the doctors pronounced her dead.

Varkala station house officer inspector Prasanth said that from preliminary evidence, it appears that the woman suffered a heart attack while swimming.

“However, it is the doctors who have to confirm the cause of death following autopsy examination,” he said.
