THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three people drowned in separate incidents at different beaches in Varkala on Sunday evening.
The deceased were identified as Ajeesh (29) and Mahin (30), both natives of Thiruvananthapuram, and Ajay Vignesh (24), a Coimbatore native who came to visit the destination along with four other friends. Balasivaraman, one of Vignesh’s friends, was rescued and was admitted to SN Mission Hospital, Varkala. He is currently on ventilator support.
An officer from the Ayiroor police station said that Vignesh, a dentist by profession, drowned at around 4pm at Odayam beach. Meanwhile, Mahin drowned at around 6pm at Kappil beach when he came to visit the spot along with his eight friends. He was a mini-bus driver who resides in Vanchiyoor. He leaves behind his wife Nafya and daughters Noora Fathima and Nazriya Fathima.
Ajeesh drowned at Papanasam beach around 6.30pm when he waded into the sea with his friend. The officer said that the beach has a signboard warning against venturing into the sea but people ignored the warnings. The bodies of the deceased have been kept at the SN Mission Hospital and Varkala Taluk Hospital.tnn
