Thiruvananthapuram: Swedish national facing legal issue over property at Vattappara

T'PURAM: After grabbing public attention following his unpleasant encounter with the police, Kovalam-based Swedish entrepreneur Stefan Asberg said that this was not the first time he was caught in an undesirable situation.

He revealed that he is involved in a legal tussle over a property that he had purchased at Vattappara near Vazhamuttom for business purposes.

He had met the city police and said that the son of his former landlord, from whom he purchased a property worth Rs 1.65 crore, has occupied a portion of the property and he won't move out. He had purchased the property after forming a company, Indilor Homestay and Resorts Pvt Ltd, along with an Indian business partner. He and his wife invested all their life's savings here as they fell in love with the beauty and culture of Kerala.

Now, he is involved in a court battle to claim the ownership of the property. He also told the police that he was facing threats from the former landlord's son, Shibu.

Speaking to TOI, Fort ACP SS Shaji said that Stefan had met him and shared about his troubles. "However, he has not given a formal complaint," he said, adding that even if he receives a formal complaint, the force will need to seek legal counsel as the matter is sub-judice.

A day ago, Kovalam SI (Grade) Shaji was placed under suspension for 'forcing' Stefan to empty liquor bottles on the road for not carrying the bill. Shaji has filed a petition before the chief minister seeking a fair probe in the matter claiming that he did not humiliate the foreigner. The petition was forwarded to the CM on Saturday evening through Kerala Police Officers Association.
