KSEB driver arrested for assaulting stray dog in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Medical College police arrested a 58-year-old KSEB driver for assaulting a stray dog with an iron rod at Pattom here on Saturday.

On a complaint filed by People for Animals, an animal welfare organization, the police registered a case under section 11-A of Prevention of Cruelty against Animals Act 1960 against Murali Kumar of Prithvi Nivas at Mudakkal.

As it was a bailable offence, police have released him on station bail.

The CCTV footage of the man attacking the dog went viral on social media.

The dog is undergoing treatment at PFA hospital and is recovering fast.

“The skull of the dog has a fracture and there is bleeding in the eyes and nose of the dog,” said Sreedevi S Kartha, PFA Trust Board member.

She also said that action must be taken against the man who attacked the dog.

Kumar is a contract employee of KSEB for nearly 20 years and the people working in the office have shared only good opinions about him.

Kumar said that he regrets what had happened as it was done on a sudden provocation after the dog bit the valve tube of the jeep.

“My jeep got punctured a number of times after the dog bit the valve tube and 80% of the vehicles parked near the office were damaged by the dog. The dog has come here recently and it always barks at me. I was upset with the dog and I did not want to hurt the animal. All I wanted was to drive the dog away,” said Kumar.
