Thirty yobs cause mayhem at division one football match

Police issued a furious message to the parents of around 30 yobs who caused mayhem at a football match.

The warning came after the gang disrupted the Prescot Cables FC Evo-Stik Division one tie with Leek Town at Volair Park, in Eaton Street, Prescot , on Tuesday night.

The club said a group of around 30-40 youths had been refused entry to the ground after causing trouble during last week's cup final against Southport .

The group tried to block other fans from entering, threw plastic bottles onto the pitch and tried to climb into the ground at various points throughout the game.

A post from the official social media accounts of Knowsley Police stated: "Good Evening Parents we have a quick message to share with you if own a child who might be out near to Prescot Cables Football club.

A powerful message from police to parents of yobs who caused trouble at a Prescot Cables FC match (Merseyside Police)

"If your child is at that location throwing bottles and missiles into the ground whilst a game is on you might want to speak to them ASAP and get them home QUICK before we get hold of them.

"This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated and is quite frankly disgraceful. We want to let you know that any person that is found to be responsible for a criminal offence will not be returned home to you for a telling off but will be going straight to custody so please be warned!!!"

Rhys Jones' dad "not shocked" that thug linked to his son's murder is in trouble again

The post was accompanied by a picture of a police cell and continued: "A local football team, along with its supporters, are trying to enjoy a match but unfortunately a small minority of youths simply can't behave themselves whilst showing absolutely no respect to people in and around the ground.

"The attached picture is where your child can expect to be if this behaviour carries on."

Lynda Derbyshire, bar manager at the club, told the ECHO : "They were aged between 14-16, and there was a lot of them - between 30 and 40.

"Quite a few got bored and went away but around 10-15 stayed through the game and were testing the steward's patience. The police were called twice and did a sweep of the ground.

"No-one was harmed and their wasn't any violence but it was quite intimidating when they're on mass like that, and they are quite verbal to us and know a lot of choice swear-words."

Ms Derbyshire said the group had caused problems in the Liverpool Senior Cup final and had tried to run onto the pitch during the trophy presentation.

She said: "If you know your kids are out that time of night check on them. I thought what the police put online was quite powerful, and with the picture of the cells they know they are not going to get away with it."

In response to the comments other Prescot residents highlighted similar incidents at the nearby McDonald's restaurant, on Prescot Retail Park, where they claimed a gang of youths were "causing havoc" for staff and customers.

Another user posted: "Probably the same gang of lads from Maccies earlier on! Poor staff had to lock the door to stop them coming in which only resulted in them banging, punching & head butting the glass door!

"Absolutely vile behaviour!"

Merseyside Police has been contacted for comment.
