Thirteen residents die at Scots care home amid a suspected coronavirus outbreak

Thirteen residents at a Scots care home have died in a week following a suspected coronavirus outbreak.

Burlington Court Care Home in the Queenslie area of Glasgow also confirmed two members of staff tested positive for the deadly virus and are being treated in hospital.

The 90-bed home, on Stepps Road, houses those with dementia and other long-term medical conditions as well as those with mental health conditions.

Four Seasons Health Care, who runs the premises, suspended all visits to Burlington Court amid the pandemic, which has swept across Scotland over the past couple of weeks.

Th Daily Record was told that the deaths were 'query associated to Covid-19' and not confirmed as being the direct result of the virus.

None of the deceased were tested as tests could only be carried out in hospital.

All of those who died had underlying health conditions and their families have been made aware of 'possible Covid-19 association'.

A representative from Four Seasons Health Care told the Record: “With deep sadness we can confirm that 13 residents at Burlington Care Home have passed away over the past seven days.

"Our condolences are with their families and we are providing them with our ongoing support during this difficult time.

"The passing of a loved one is always traumatic irrespective of the circumstances.

"Within the home the focus of the team continues to be the ongoing care and protection of all our residents and our colleagues, two of whom are currently being treated for coronavirus.

"Our strict protocols on infectious diseases are in place, including social distancing, and we are closely monitoring the health of the other residents and colleagues.

"In these exceptional circumstances we are sincerely grateful for the dedication of our colleagues and can assure our residents and their families that we are putting all our resources and energy into supporting and protecting everyone in our homes.”

On Friday it was reported that 172 Scots have died from coronavirus, while 3,001 people have tested positive for the bug.
