Thirteen people were injured in a violent incident involving a 78-year-old man at a Victorian aged care home in the Latrobe Valley on the weekend.

Police were called to the Yallambee Village for the Aged in Traralgon at about 1:30am on Saturday after reports several residents had been assaulted.

A 78-year-old man was restrained by officers and taken to hospital for assessment.

A woman in her 90s and two other residents in their 70s were taken to the Latrobe Regional Hospital in a stable condition.

It is understood they needed treatment for upper body injuries.

Ten other residents and one staff member were treated at the scene.

The home's chief executive and director of care Janet Moore said workers were doing everything they could to make sure residents were safe.

"We recognise people have been affected and we continue to provide care and assistance for those who have been impacted to support their health and wellbeing during this difficult time," she said.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
