Thirteen people have been arrested after an "aggressive" stand-off between officers and a group of youths in West Sussex.

Officers were called to reports of a young man damaging a car in Shoreham at around 10.30pm on Saturday.

When they tried to arrest him, a large group of teenagers appeared and "became aggressive towards officers" on the High Street and Shoreham Footbridge, police said.

Police called for backup and arrested 13 youths for offences including assaulting an emergency worker and violent disorder.

The initial suspect was arrested last in the Shoreham Green area, officers said. All those arrested have been taken into custody.

Large groups of young people have since been barred from congregating in Shoreham town centre for the rest of the weekend after police issued a dispersal order.
