Thirst, rage as taps run dry in a Zkp village

MOHALI: While the temperature has soared to as high as 42 degree Celsius, the residents of Zimidara Enclave in Bhabat village have been facing acute water shortage for the past 20 days.

The public health department does not care to ensure drinking water supply to the residents, who alleged that they were forced to walk 200 to 300 metres to nearby colonies to get drinking water. They said they were now dependent upon tankers for water supply.

Tarlochan Singh of Zimidara Enclave said, "We have been facing drinking water shortage for the past 20 days. The taps have gone dry, but no one is listening to our plight. We are forced to fetch water from nearby Shiva Enclave and other places that are 200 to 300 metres away. Carrying buckets of water is a difficult task in this scorching heat."

Another resident Upinder Bhatt said, "We are paying for water tankers and none of the officials of the public health department have paid heed to our complaints. The temperature has soared to 42 degrees and we are facing a water crisis." MC president Udayveer Singh Dhillon said, "We will get the matter resolved immediately and see why action was not taken earlier. If there is negligence on the part of the public health officials, action will be taken."
