A Chinese soldier was reported to have been quarantined in a Walsall hospital over the weekend. Some natiaonl papers have reported the soildier "tested positive" but the DfH say this is a "false alarm".

BirminghamLive reports that the news comes after a mother and son from the same family were struck down by the virus at the University of York on Friday (January 31).

The son is a student at the University of York, but was not on campus or in student accommodation before of after exposure to the virus.

Now, a Chinese soldier from Shanghai is reportedly being cared for at the Manor Hospital, Walsall in the West Midlands.

The Daily Star is also reporting that more tests are currently being conducted on the quarantined patient.

A source has told the Daily Mail that the man arrived at hospital on Friday or during the early hours of Saturday.

It's claimed that the patient is being held in an isolated room in the intensive care department.

BirminghamLive has approached the Department of Health for comment on this.

Public Health England (PHE) said it was making "good progress" in tracing people who have come into close contact with the two Chinese nationals.
