
People crowd a street in the Kabukicho district of Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, at around 10 p.m. Saturday, when the Tokyo metropolitan government's request for the 10 p.m. closure of bars and restaurants serving alcohol, as well as karaoke parlors, went into effect. This is the third time that the metropolitan government has asked for shortened business hours. The request affects about 45,000 eating and drinking establishments and is set to last for 20 days through Dec. 17.
