Third teen charged in Barnard College student Tessa Majors murder

NEW YORK _ The third and final suspect in the Tessa Majors murder investigation was arrested Wednesday, a police source said.

Luciano Lewis, 14, surrendered early Wednesday and was charged with murder and robbery, sources said.

He was being brought before a judge at the youth part of the criminal court in Manhattan.

Majors, a Barnard College student, was fatally stabbed in Morningside Park on Dec. 11.

The teen who allegedly knifed her to death, Rashaun Weaver, 14, was charged as an adult with robbery and murder Saturday after his DNA was discovered beneath the victim's fingernails, authorities said.

Weaver is also due in court Wednesday to be arraigned on the murder indictment, officials said.

A 13-year-old also involved in the robbery was charged in the case in December. His case has been held in Family Court.

Majors suffered multiple stab wounds in the 6:50 p.m. robbery, including one that pierced her heart, officials said.

"Help me! I am being robbed!" the teen screamed before being stabbed.

Weaver was picked up by police Friday night in the lobby of the Taft Houses in Harlem after dodging detectives for weeks, including one instance in which he had agreed to surrender, sources said. Police believed his disappearing act came after Majors bit the suspect on the hand as she fought for her life, and Weaver's family kept him hidden away so the wound could heal.

Majors' father, novelist Inman Majors, has attended several of the court hearings, staring down the teen as the suspect stood before the judge.

Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. on Saturday said that 20 witnesses were interviewed and 700 pieces of evidence was reviewed in the case.
