A third case of coronavirus has been confirmed in Tasmania's North West Regional Hospital.
Authorities confirmed two new cases of coronavirus in the state late on Saturday night.
One of two positive coronavirus cases is a female staff member of the hospital, where two other staff cases were confirmed on Friday.
The second new case is a child, bringing the state's tally to 82.
One of the cases is from northern Tasmania and the other is from the north-west.
An investigation has begun to identify and contact any person who has had close contact with this staff member, both inside and outside of the hospital.
The investigation into the two North West Regional Hospital staff members who tested positive to coronavirus on Friday is continuing.
Chief Medical Officer Tony Lawler issued a statement acknowledging that the latest staff case at the hospital "may cause some concern".
"While it may be necessary for other staff and patients to be tested for coronavirus, this will occur as investigations progress," Professor Lawler said.
"We will assess and test any patient or staff member who is determined to be at risk of coronavirus, and ensure the highest standards of care continue to be provided at the hospital.
"This includes ensuring any close contacts are immediately self-isolating.
"The safety of our patients and our dedicated staff remain our highest priority, and neither the hospital's operations nor patient services have changed at this time."
Professor Lawler said patients, staff and the public would be kept informed of the situation as the investigation progressed.
